[Video Inside]Our cricket team is active again, after a decade of dullness in sport activities. May it be their home ground or not, it is encouraging to see them so active in the field. Though Jaffna Hindu proved itself as a leading school in Sri Lanka in the academic line, it didn’t get an opportunity to prove its prowess in the field of sports for over a decade. However, today our youngsters have taken the challenge in their shoulders and proving that they are not only among the top rung in studies, but also in sports. You may know that our basket ball team has already produced a national player, named Vaahesan, and we wish our college will produce many players at the national level in other sports too.
Our young and talented cricketers have sown the hope in our minds. They have proved themselves at the district level matches in Jaffna. They knocked out all the competitors who have faced them, and roaring in the field, to become the Champions of Northern Province. Especially, we have to congratulate the Under-17 team. Every single member in the team took the training seriously, and they were well trained. They played with responsibility in the field and had a passion in playing for the College.
The U17 team is captained by Mas.Sajeevan, who is a hitter, and who can help in tough matches with his fast strike. Mas.Madhushan, who has been selected to the district team and received a rare opportunity to receive training campaign in India, helps the team with his strong batting performance. Mas.Jasminan, who brought a historical victory in the field of Athletic (national level gold medallist in Long Jump), contributes to cricket with his bat and ball, as an all rounder. Mas.Sajeehan is a top order batsman who contributes immensely to the team. Mas.Kalkhogan is a top order batsman, Mas.Sinthujan is a pace bowler, Mas.Rukshman to his credit has got a hat-trick in a match. Mas.Sangeerthanan and Saarangan are the other gifted boys to the team. The team won all the matches, except the one against Bambalapitya Hindu College, which they lost marginally. Our Team is the Champion in a two group pool, in Jaffna District. Now they are anxiously waiting to seal their place at the provincial level.
Not only the Under-17 team that performed well, even their juniors, the Under-15 team is the top seed in the Jaffna District. They won all the matches they played, except one. Even without proper, quality cricket gear, they managed to take the lead.
We need here, to mention two important persons who are behind the success of Jaffna Hindu Cricket team. They are none other than the two coaches, Mr.V.Manikandan and Mr.T.Kowshikan. Mr.V.Manikandan, who practises LLB, being loyal to his Alma matter devoted his personal time to bring up the under-17 team, while Mr.T.Kowshikan, who is a former Basketball player and Cricketer, spent a lot of time with the Under-15 team. And the two were fully supported by the teacher in-Charge Mr.Prashanthan, Mr.Jeyaratnarajah (P.O.G), and Mr.Nimalan (Vice-Principal). Also, our Principal has been a great support and a source of strength in reaching these milestones in sport activities of our college.
We wish our teams’ success journey never to end, and they will salute thee JHC flag with historical victories.
