UK OBA had its annual cultural concert 'Kalaiyarasi 2011' last Saturday, 21 May 2011 at Ilford Town Hall, Essex· It was a house full event with nearly all tickets sold out.

Kalaiyarasi 2011 was a grand success with over 1000 audience; many old boys, their family and friends were present at the event.

The event as customary started with lighting of oil lamp, college flag hoisting and college song. Then all the audience stood for a 2 min silent prayer. That was followed by welcome address.

The first programme of the evening was a cultural dance to our college song and it continued with variety of dances and live music. The main entertainment of the evening was Dindugal Liyoni's comedy programme. The orchester for the evening was provided by RG Music Academy.

In between these entertainments an award presentation and President speech took place. President, Mr.Senthilnathan in his his speech outlined the purpose of the evening and how the proceeds will be utilized.

President Speech:

I am privileged to give this message on behalf of our association and the management committee. I welcome you all who are present here to our annual cultural programme this evening. I also wish to welcome all the artists who have accepted our invitation and present here to perform this evening.

This event is held annually to stage our young generation’s talents and artists. This opportunity also gives our old boys and their families to get together and celebrate the fond memories of our old school life.

All proceeds generated from this event will go towards our school development needs  and the needy children in our community back in Sri-Lanka. To this end we have actively committed to help the IDP children who have taken refuge at our school for their education.   We invite all Jaffna Hindu college boys and their associates to join in hand to help these unfortunate children who have lost their parents and their lively hood.

We have also committed and endure to bring all our old boys back again in one fold and towards this I take this opportunity to invite every one of our boys to reunite.

On behalf of our management committee I extend my sincere thanks to the children and their teachers who have readily agreed to perform in this event today.

I wish you all a good and an enjoyable evening.

S.Senthilnathan

President – Jaffna Hindu College Old Boys Association ( UK )

21st May 2011
