
The Jaffna Hindu College OBA (UK) Annual General Meeting was held on Sunday 08 November 2009 at The Archbishop Lancfranc School, Croydon, Surrey.
AGM started with a minute silence to remember those who lost their lives last year.
President in his welcome speech explained how the OBA-UK being the first OBA in the UK took initiatives to see the ways to help the suffering Tamil people in Sri Lanka.
He continued to say that OBA-UK organised a meeting of all the Tamil schools OBA's at the beginning of May 09, to find ways to bring out the suffering of the Tamils due to the war to other people in the UK and to see how OBA's could support the displaced Tamils.
He also stated that OBA-UK was the first OBA to contribute donation for the Tamil School Sports Association (UK)'s appeal to help the children in Vanni. Furthermore, in June/July committee members contributed to help the displaced Tamils and supplied goods to the camp during his visit to Vanni.
He mentioned that he was at the College to open the ‘Principal House’ last month and provided sports equipment and digital camera for the school.
President and the Secretary emphasised that due to the situation in Sri Lanka all the events were postponed and scaled down during the year. It was stated Jolly Vibe 2008, 2nd Battle of Blues - Cricket Match between the JHC OBA and Hartley OBA and Kalai Arasi 2009 were organised during the year. OBA - UK Open Cricket Champions at the TSSA (UK) - Summer Sports Festival -2009 and the cricket team were congratulated.
At the AGM, members accepted that the Land purchase project needs to be completed as soon as possible and all the Kalai Arasi income to be used for this purpose.
It was also discussed how the OBA UK can generate fund to help orphan children for a long period of time. Two members have already been nominated by the Committee to come up with project proposal and few members at the AGM volunteered to help these members to produce the project proposal to the Committee.
Continuing the tradition vegetarian snacks, coffee, tea and soft drinks were served at the end of the meeting.
AGM closed with College Anthem.
