
The Colombo OBA celebrated its Navarathri Vizha 2010 together with their centennial souvenir release on Sunday, October 17th at Saraswathy hall, Bambalapitiya, Colombo.
The ceremony started at 5.00 PM with the arrival of the Chief Guest Mr.Vikram Misri, the Deputy High Commissioner of India.
Following the tradition, the celebration started with lighting of oil lamp and prayer and continued with welcome speech by Dr.S.R.Krishnarajah, Vice President of Colomobo OBA and President's speech by Mr.S.Raghavan, President, Colombo OBA.
Mr. Vikram Misri while delivering his key note address at the event referred to the historical relationship the college had with India and to the Indian nationals served the college as principals and academics at its inception.
He expressed his happiness at re-establishing the past relationship once again by participating at this ocasion.
Hon.Justice K.Sripavan, Sri Lanka High Court Judge and Prof. P. Balasundarampillai, former Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, and Mr.V.Kailasappillai, President Jaffna Hindu College Trust Fund graced the occasion as the guest of honours.
Prof.Balasundarampillai delivered a speech under the topic "Jaffna Today"
The college Principal Mr.V.Ganesharajah participating and speaking at the event made a request to Indian high commission to help them renovate the facilities at the college playgrounds.
Following the speeches, the first book of the centennial souvenir was released by the deputy high commissioner and received by Hon.E.Saravanapavan, Jaffna MP and Vice President of Colombo OBA.
The souvenir review was done by Mr. Kandiah Neelakandan, the Editor of the centennial souvenir.
After a short break for refreshment, the event recommenced with the awarding ceremony for the centennial cricket match between Colombo-Jaffna Hindu Colleges. Hon. Justice K. Sripavan gave away the awards.
Cultural performance from college students took place after that. The dramas and debates they performed exhibited the talent of the young students.
More than 300 participated at the celebration.
The sucessful event came to an end with the vote of thanks from Dr.Sivapathamoorthy and the college song.
