[Photo: President, Mr.Selvaretnam Raghavan] The Jaffna Hindu Old Boys' Association Colombo (1910 – 2010) is one of the oldest associations in the Island among Old Boy’s Associations of several schools and is celebrating its Centenary this year.

 

A grand celebration has been organized by the Colombo OBA to mark this occasion on 26th June, 2010 (Saturday) at the college premises as a full day program, starting from 8.00 am onwards and followed by a Colombo - Jaffna Hindu College cricket battle on the following day. The 50 Overs Cricket match against Bambalapitiya Hindu College will be played in the Jaffna Hindu College Grounds on 27 June, and starting at 8.30 am. 

The celebrations include many events to involve students, old boys and past and present teachers of the college. One of the event among many will be an essay and speech competition among the students of different age groups. Also the Current and the Past Teachers of the college have been requested to submit research papers on subjects relating to the college. The best essays and reserach papers will be published in the Centenary Souvenir. The winners will be recognized and rewarded with handsome cash prizes and medals at this event.  

In addition to this, there will be a Cultural Program where the school students and past students will participate.

Hon. Justice K.Sri Pavan will be the Chief Guest for the morning session and Mr.L.Illango, Secretary Provincial Ministry of Education, Northern Province will be the Chief Guest for the evening session of the Centenary Celebrations on Saturday, 26 June. 

A Centenary Celebrations Committee has been set up under the chairmanship of M.N.Asokan to organize the events. Mr.S.Raghavan, the Centenary President of Colombo OBA is coordinating with the Celebrations Committee to make this event a memorable one.

The Centenary Souvenir, published to mark the centenary of the Jaffna Hindu Colombo OBA will be released on the celebrations day of 26 June. The 200 pages Souvenir will carry several memorable articles about the College, OBA, Past Principals, Past Presidents, Secretaries of the OBAs and about the distinguished Past Students.

The Organizing Committee will provide lunch and refreshments on the celebration day and for the cricket match. They are also trying to complete the acquiring process and complete the expansion program of the playground initiated by Colombo OBA before this event. Once this is done, the 400 M track will be made  available for our students for athletic events.

Comfortable Air-Conditioned Coaches are arranged by the Committee from Colombo to Jaffna on 24th or 25thJune and to return on 27th or 28th June 2010.

Mr.S.Raghavan, the President - Colombo OBA and Mr.M.N.Asokan, the Chairman - Centenary Celebrations Committee trust that this event will be a memorable get-together for all the categories of the past students and invite everyone to participate in this event and encourage the college fraternity.

The OBA decided to have its Centenary Celebrations in the college premises in order to involve the teachers and students of the college.
