
Jaffna Hindu OBA Sydney planned to have Geethavani 2009 awards on June 7th. Due the situation in home land committee halted the event. Now they have rescheduled the above event on 19th Sept 2009 at the Bankstown Auditorium in Sydney,Australia.
Following the great success of the last 3 years of the Geethavani Awards, the Jaffna Hindu College Old Boys' Association (JHC OBA), Sydney is very pleased to announce the Geethavani Awards for 2009, this time with a new category, and a wide variety of original performances.The philosophy of the competition remains the same - to encourage the growing number of talented Tamil singers in Australia. The winner will be chosen by an audience vote and will receive prestigious Geethavani Award along with the recognition to pursue a music career.
The Duet Category is an inaugural category in this year's competition, which allows duets to be performed by anyone aged 12 and over.
The JHC OBA Sydney Singing Competition will be conducted by the internationally recognised musician 'Maestro' 'Wadyavisharadh' Sarangan Sri Ranganathan, who along with his accompaniment of renowned artists, has a new, original and exciting repertoire in store for the show.
Proceeds of the show will go to the Save the Children Foundation in Sri Lanka, via Jaffna Hindu College.
