Navarathri 2011 starts tomorrow, 28th Sep; Vijayathashami on 6th Oct

Navarathri 2011, the nine-day festival dedicated to the Mother Goddess 'Sakthi', will be celebrated from Wednesday, September 28th to October 6th by all Hindus. Vithyarambham will be observed on the Vijayathasami day on Thursday, October 6, 2011. Ayudha pooja is on Wednesday, October 5th 2011; the auspicious time is from 9.30 to 10.30 AM.

This 9 days of pooja is segregated into 3 parts and each parts contains 3 days of each. The first 3 days of pooja is for Sri Durga Devi to destroy all evils and our impurities, the next 3 days of pooja is for Sri Lakshmi, goddess of wealth,  and the final 3 days for Sri Saraswathi, the Goddess of wisdom and learning.

The tenth day is Vijayathasami. Vithyarambham to small children will be observed on this day. 

Ayudha Pooja is performed on the ninth or tenth day, when everyone gives their tools of the trade - pens, machinery, books, automobiles,  etc. a rest and ritually worships them. They start a fresh from the next day.
