The students who represented Jaffna Hindu College at national and international level events and made records were honoured by the Jaffna Hindu community on Monday (28.05.2012). The sports subcommittee of Sydney OBA rewards Mas.Senthooran, who won a gold medal for high jump at the Junior National Atheltic Championship held recently in Colombo.
The five students who brought pride to Jaffna Hindu community by winning the accolade at the national and international level in various activities and their parents were honoured yesterday (20.05.2012) by the Jaffna Hindu community . Both the students and their parents, together with teachers were taken in procession by the college band from Kasturiar road round about to Kumaraswami Hall. And, the students were honoured by the Principal, Mr.V.Ganesharajah at a ceremony held at the Hall.
The five students who received the honour are Mas.Vidyasagar and Mas.Harishankar for winning bronze medals at the International Science Olympiad held in South Africa. Mas.Senthooran for winning a gold medal for high jump at the Junior National Athletic Championship. Mas.Jasmininan for winning many medals at national level for Long jump and triathlon. Mas.Gunavaran for winning the gold medal for creative writing at the National English Day competition 2011.
At the function organized to honour these students, the sports subcommittee of Sydney OBA handed over a cash reward of Rs.10, 000 and an appreciation letter to Mas.R.Senthooran. The college principal handed over both to him.
An old boy of JHC, Mr.T.Mohanadas (living in London), rewarded Rs.10, 000 each to other four students. Also, Dr.T.Sivapakianathan (from London) an old boy and a former Captain of Cricket, Football, and Athletic teams of JHC donated a champion trophy for college use.
