Mr.N.Vithyatharan, an acclaimed Tamil Journalist produced by Jaffna Hindu

Mr.Nadesapillai Vithyatharan is an acclaimed media personality who brought honour to his alma mater through his profession. He retired from his journalistic profession last month, in which he served for over three decades; he faced many challenges and risks in carrying out his tasks as a journalist.

Mr.Vithyatharan, former Editor of Uthayan and Sudar Oli contributed to Tamil community enormously through his profession during difficult times. He used his pen as a sword to fight for the rights and dignity of Tamils in Sri Lanka. He always stood by the side of the justice, and fearlessly fought for it when it was rejected.

Mr.Vithyatharan was born in 1959 and had his early education in Jaffna. He was a student of Jaffna Hindu College from January 1971 to April 1977.

Mr.Vidhytharan followed Attorney at Law at Law College Colombo and could not finish his final year of studies due to the 1983 pogrom. He completed priliminary and secondary level at law college.

His journalistic career started in 1979 at Thinapathy, and Sinthamany. In 1985 he started Uthayan daily.

His attachment to Jaffna Hindu never ended with his student life, he is an active member of Jaffna Hindu Old Boys Association and held various positions in Jaffna OBA. He contributed a lot towards the school development, at many times using his contacts to support development activities.

During his college career, he was an outstanding school boy sportsman who gained National recognition. He has represented the school in Soccer from 1972 in 3rd, 2nd and 1st teams and has been awarded Soccer colours in recognition of his meritorious performance as an outstanding Goal keeper. The teams in which he played have won the District Championship for a number of years. He kept goal for the Jaffna schools Soccer team in 1976 and earned much praise from everybody for his excellent stint of goal keeping in the Inter District final match. He was in the Sri Lanka schools Soccer pool and played for the Sri Lanka schools at the 7th Asian Schools International Soccer Tournament held in Singapore in July 1976.

He has represented the College at cricket from 1972 in the under sixteen and under nineteen divisions and was awarded the prize for fielding in 1976 and awarded school colours.

He has played Hockey for the school and for the Jaffna District schools from 1974 and has won his school colours, as well. He is also a very capable basket ball player and has represented the College in School tournaments.

He has captained his House, and was actively involved in organizing its activities.        

He was also a member of the Sri Lanka Cadet Corps and attended camps.     

As a prefect of the College he was very helpful in the maintenance of good discipline among fellow students.

We should support Mr. Vithayathrans nomination for the up comming Northern Provincial Council Chief Ministership. We are proud of Mr. Vithyathran for his achivements all these years through his pen. Now the time has come for us to stand behind him in making him as the FIRST CHIEF minister of Northern Province.

We all how well he was contibiting the Tamil Media in Sri Lanka. We all were very proud of his acivement in Media world and in the field of Sports. I have known him from my school days and he was very dedicated person what ever he do for the school or the community. We were very worried when he was going through difficult time in last year. We like to congratulate him on his achivements and wish him and his family best of luck for the future.
