Sydney OBA hosts Aim for Excellence workshop and donates equipment

Sydney OBA hosted the A/L students and the school leavers to the “Aim for Excellence” workshop in Jaffna this week from 9th of September to 11th of September 2015. The workshop was held at the HNB Auditorium, Hatton National Bank PLC, Jaffna and was chaired by Jaffna Hindu College former Principal Mr.A.Panchalingam. This workshop was opened to all schools in Jaffna and was offered free of charge. It was organized as part of their “Education Our Investment” project. Under this project, the Sydney OBA has been undertaking various activities such as improving the library facilities for Jaffna and Vanni district schools, donating educational equipment, educational workshops, and personality and leadership development workshops. 
 
The “Aim for Excellence” workshop was mainly focusing on developing and maintaining positive attitude, business and social etiquettes, personality development. The first day of the workshop was for school leavers and it was inaugurated by the Jaffna Hindu College Principal, Mr.I.Thayantharajah and Mr. Indravasan, the HNB Regional Manager for North was the guest speaker at event.  The Jaffna OBA President Sivasaravanabavan Sunthareswaran too was there to encourage the students. The second day of the workshop too was for school leavers and it was inaugurated and addressed by Shri. A.Natarajan, the Consul General of India at the Jaffna Consulate. The third day workshop was for the school students and that was inaugurated by the Kokuvil Hindu College Principal, Mr.V. Gnanakanthan, and Prof.M.Sinnaththamby was the guest speaker.  The closing note on the last day was delivered by the Principal Mr.I.Thayanantharajah. 
 
In total, 250 students attended the workshop and Mr.Thiyagalingam Mayoorasakithian assisted mr.A.Panchalingam in coordinating the whole workshop.
 
Meanwhile, under the same project, Sydney OBA has been donating equipment to the needy schools. In line with this project and also as part of the 125th anniversary celebration of Jaffna Hindu College, they recently donated a set of 100 school bags to a special needs school in Kilinochchi and to Thadduvankodi Kannaki Amman School in Elephant Pass. The schools and students were very thankful for the generosity of the JHC old boys to help other schools. Some more such donations are to continue.
