Prize Day 2016 held on 19 Sep: Hon.K.Sripavan Chief Guest, Best Club Award to Scout Troop

The annual Prize Day of Jaffna Hindu College was held on Monday, 19 September 2016, at the Cumaraswamy Hall under the patronage of Principal Mr.I.Thayanantharajah. Hon. Chief Justice K.Sripavan, the distinguished old boy of Jaffna Hindu and the current Chief Justice of Sri Lanka, honoured the school by accepting the invitation and being the chief guest for the prize day. 
As customary, the prize day events started with a special pooja and worship at Sivagnana Bhairavar temple and followed by a tea party hosted by the teachers club at the Sabalingam Auditorium. The chief guest and his wife too joined the tea party. From there, all the guests were taken on procession, accompanied by the school band, to the prize day venue.
The prize day stage events started with lighting of oil lamp and reciting thevaram. Then the principal read out the annual report of 2015. After that, a project "Personal Profile Development" funded by the OBA UK was officially commissioned by the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest, Hon.Sripavan then addressed the audience. Then the students gave speeches in both English and Tamil.
The awarding of prizes started next. The prizes were awarded to the students from year 6 to year 12 who excelled in academics, sports, and extra-curricular activities. Hon. K.Sripavan and Mrs.Jeyanthy Sripavan distributed the prizes. 
The students who performed well in GCE (O/L) and GCE (A/L) examinations conducted in 2015 were awarded prizes. Also, the student achievers in the international and national competitions were awarded with gold medals and colours awards were presented to the sportsmen. The Jaffna Hindu Scout Troop received the best club award.
