OBA UK presented pomp Kalaiyarasi 2014: Prof. A. Nallanathan the Chief Guest

JHCOBA UK presented Kalaiyarasi 2014 in style with Dindigul I Lioni on Saturday, 5th April 2014, at the huge Fairfield Hall in Croydon. Kalaiyarasi is an annual super hit Tamil cultural program in UK and the celebrity performance on stage is the main attraction of the programme. This year it was Dindigul Lioni’s “Paddukku Paaddeduththu”. Professor Arumugam Nallanathan, Professor of Wireless Communications at King’s College London, was the Chief Guest for the evening that was enjoyed by around 650 people.
In keeping with the Tamil tradition, the event started with recital of Thevaram by Siva Pillai, Mangala Vilaketral (lighting the traditional oil lamb), and Tamil Thai Vazhthu by the old boys of Jaffna Hindu College. Then the college flag was hoisted by Mr.K Skanthamorthy, the President of JHCOBA UK, and followed was the college song sung by the children of the old boys. Following a one minute silence thereafter, Mr.Paramalingam Vivehanandan, the Vice President of JHCOBA UK, welcomed the gathering.
Soon after the welcome address, the cultural programme commenced with a Tamil Vazhthupa dance by the students of Menaka Raviraj. The next was the much awaited Paddukku Paaddeduththu conducted by Kalaimamani Dindigul I Lioni. Some of the all-time favourite cine songs such as Soi Soi, Kandanky Kandanky, Nane Nana, Kannodu Kanpathelam, Minsara Kanna, Padariyen Padipariyen, Ninukory Varnam, Theivam Thantha Poove, Fye Fye were presented on stage. The music for the live show was provided the Tempo music group. This musical show has given a real opportunity to excel the local talents of our community in music. It was performed well and attracted the audience.
In between the entertainment Mr.K Skanthamorthy, the President of JHCOBA UK, and the Chief Guest Prof A Nallanathan were called to address the gathering. The Induvin Mainthan awards also were distributed to the recipients Mr.R.Uthayananthan and Mr.J.Uthayakumar. All the artists too were honoured with trophies. A souvenir to mark Kalaiyarasi 2014 was also released. The President in his address invited all Hinduites in UK to join the association and contribute positively to develop our alma mater, a great institution, and the younger generation in North and East, in general. The Chief Guest in his speech said all JHCOBAs around the world have one thing in common that is an intense loyalty to the alma mater and readiness to come to its assistance. He wished that it must proceed with renewed vigour to make JHC the best school, not only in education, but also in all other areas including sports. Prof.Nallanathan is an old boy of Jaffna Hindu College (AL 1984) and graduated from University of Peradeniya, Cambridge University, and University of Hong Kong. Prior to joining King’s College London, he was teaching at National University of Singapore.
Mr.Kamalarajah , President of JHCOBA Norway,Mr.G.Partheepan, Vice President of JHCOBA Sydney and Mr.Sugantharaj, Treasurer of USA OBA were the special guests at the event.
The event concluded with the College song at around 11.07 PM. The Masters of Ceremony was Saba Suganthan who conducted the event smoothly.
