OBA Sydney annually presents Geethavani Awards, a Tamil music competition among local talents and a music fiesta. In 2006, the JHC OBA recognised the need to foster and develop the talents of the increasing number of Tamil singers, especially those who were born and raised in Australia but were actively engaging in their Tamil heritage, and setup the Geethavani Awards. Since then, it has been conducted annually, increasing in popularity year by year. However, despite its dynamic nature and rapid growth, the Geethavani Awards has stayed true to its philosophy of providing a platform for the singers and musicians to demonstrate their talent and to raise their profile as burgeoning Tamil singers and musicians.
This year marks the 10th year of the Geethavani Awards which, once again, will be held at the UNSW Sir John Clancy Auditorium on Saturday, the 19th of September 2015. This year is special for OBA Sydney since it is the 125th year of excellence of their alma mater, the Jaffna Hindu College, the 20th anniversary of Sydney OBA, and the 10th year of Geethvanni Awards. So, they are presenting it as a Mega Geethavani with special performance from the ace percussionist Kalaimamani, maestro Sivamani, who is sure to create a vibe on the stage with his electrifying beats.
