Jaffna Hindu celebrated Children's Day, MP Sritharan was the chief guest

Jaffna Hindu celebrated Children's Day on Monday, 1 November, 2010. Hon. MP Sritharan was the chief guest at the event.
The MP for Vanni district, who is an old boy of Jaffna Hindu, in his address at the event hailed the college as an icon of Tamil culture and said it is a treasure for North East Tamils.
He said it produced many patriotic sons of Tamil nation and under any circumstances it never lost its identity.
He told the students that when our identities are systematically being destroyed, its the education that can only give hope for our future. The future is in the hands of young generation, the students should utilize the given opporutunity to reach great heights and make education our identity. For that it is important for students to be cooperative, united and work hard, he stressed.
The Principal, Mr.V,Ganesharajah praised the service rendered by MP Sritharan to the student society who are trying to come out from dire situation and re-building their life.
Not only as an old boy but as a person who has directed his service for the up liftmant of the society, we are proud to have Hon Sritharan as the chief guest today, the Principal said. He wished the MP to continue his service for the destitute society.
The Principal requested the Jaffna Hindu students to maintain brotherhood with students from Vanni district, who have less resources and facilities compared to them.
Student performances also took place at the event.
Universal Children's Day takes place on November 20 annually. First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children. It was also chosen as the day to celebrate childhood.
