Hindu beats Hartley OBA Sydney in Open Cricket; Ranjithan Man of the Match

Annual Hindu versus Hartley cricket encounter was held on Monday, 6th Oct 2014, at the John’s Park Parramatta in Sydney. Two 40 overs matches, Hindu versus Hartley OBA Sydney Open teams and Hindu versus Hartley OBA Sydney Over 40 teams, were played. Ranjithan’s massive 121 runs not out took Hindu’s Open team to a comfortable victory, but it lost in the match between Over 40 teams.

Hartley OBA Sydney won both, Over 40 and Open team, tosses and the Hartley Open team selected to field first while Hartley Over 40 team opted to bat first.

In the match between Hindu – Hartley Open teams, Hindu Open team, captained by Murali, scored 246 runs in 40 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. In reply, Hartley managed to score only 152 runs in 30 overs, losing all wickets. Ratnam Ranjithan, who opened the match for the Hindu Open team, blasted a massive 121 runs, which was the game changer in favour of Hindus. He stayed firmly at the crease from the first ball to the last, presenting a comfortable victory. Poori from Hartley team scored 108 runs and received the best batsman award. Best bowler was Vijithan from Jaffna Hindu Open team and Kumaran, also from Jaffna Hindu, was the best fielder. No doubt, Ranjithan was the man of the match.

In the Over 40 match, Hartley went to bat first and scored 196 runs. Jaffna Hindu Over 40 team, captained by Mahinthan, could not stand up to the expectation. It scored only a meekly 128 runs and lost the match to Hartley. However, the best bowler and best fielder awards went to Ramesh (Sports Secretary, JHCOBA) and Gobinath, respectively. Best batsman was Vasee from Hartley Over 40 team and Hartley’s Johnson was the man of the match.

The matches finished around 4.30 PM and the presentation ceremony followed.
