Ghana Mazhai 2014 & Dinner, the annual fund raising event of OBA Melbourne, was held on Saturday, 9th August 2014, at the Kingston City Hall, Moorabbin, Victoria.  The Kingston City Hall was filled with around 650 enthusiastic people. The event started around 6.30 PM and went on till 11.30 without any slack all throughout, with the well-organized array of events. Super Singer fame Santhosh Hariharan was a special performer of the evening. He entertained the audience with his mesmerising voice.
The Ghana Mazhai and dinner is an annual event organized by the Jaffna Hindu College Old Boys Association Victoria in aid of Jaffna Hindu College Fund Program. Jaffna Hindu College Fund Program is an initiative by the OBA to support the school development programmes. At the pre-event, one minute silence was observed for all those who laid their life for the community.  Also, late Mr.Mahadeva and Dr.Shanmuganathan, distinguished old boys of Jaffna Hindu, were remembered. Thereafter, the event as usual started with the lighting of traditional oil lamp and followed by the college song. Following that, the President of OBA Melbourne, Mr.Vijayarajan formally welcomed the people to the event and thanked them for their continued support, which has given an opportunity for the OBA to make a valuable contribution to the alma mater. Also, Srimathy Narmatha Ravichandran’s student’s welcomed the people to the event with their welcome dance.
Immediately after, the Chief Guest Dr.Srikanthan, a founding member of the OBA Melbourne, was invited to address the gathering. That being the last of the inaugural formalities opened the stage for Live Music programme, which was directed by Niroshan Sathyamoorthy of Puthiyapoopalam. Year after year, the popularity of Ghana Mazhai is increasing, and this year the organizers shifted the venue to a bigger hall to accommodate all eager fans.  As usual, the Ghana Mazhai didn’t fail in meeting the expectation of the audience; it immersed the fans in enchanting music with lovely songs, chosen carefully.
Dinner was served in between the musical show. The menu was chosen to cater our native taste buds. Everyone enjoyed the mouth-watering Sri Lankan menu.
The live music continued until 11.30 PM. Mr. T.Sujanthan, the Secretary of Melbourne OBA, delivered the vote of thanks. Also, awards were distributed to recognize the sponsors and the stage performers. The event closed with a Raffles Draw, which was conducted by Mr.K.Sathiyalingam and Mr, Srinanathakumar. To mark the Ghana Mazhai 2014, a souvenir also was released. The master of Ceremony was Mr.Sivasuthan, who led the event smoothly.
