Annual Prize Day 2012 was held on Friday, 22nd June

The Annual Prize Day of Jaffna Hindu College was held last Friday, the 22nd of June 2012, at the college Cumaraswamy hall under the patronage of the Principal Mr.V.Ganesharajah. Mr.Vaitialingam Shanmugalingam, former president of JHCOBA UK was the chief guest of Annual Prize Day 2012.

The event started with special pooja to the college deity Sivagnana Bhairava Peruman. Then the chief guest, his wife, and other guests were invited for a tea party hosted by the Jaffna Hindu Teachers Union. After tea, the chief guest and his wife along with other guests of honours were taken in procession to the venue with college band.

The prize day function at the Cumaraswamy hall commenced with lighting of traditional oil lamp, reciting thevaram and college song. A welcome dance was performed by students.

Then the welcome speech was delivered by the College head prefect, and there after Principal presented the annual report of 2011. Followed on was the key note address by the chief guest.The chief guest Mr.Vaitialingam Shanmugalingam is a Contract Performance Manager, Network Management, Highways Group, Environment, Planning and Regeneration, London Borough of Barnet, UK. He was an active member of JHCOBA UK and held the positions of Vice President and President in JHCOBA UK. During his presidency a number of major projects were successfully completed.

Next was a book donation; Rs.3, 30,000 worth of books was donated by the old boys of A/L 2005 for the college library.  Following that were speeches from students and guest of honours and distribution of prizes. Mrs.Shobana Shanmugalingam distributed the prizes. Year 6 to Year 12 students who exceled in educational, sporting activities received prizes. 77 students received medals for excellence in education, and 21 students received colours trophy for excelling in sports activities. 350 students who have successfully completed GCE O/L, GCE A/L received prizes.

The students who obtained 3As in the 2011 GCE A/L Examination results received gold medals. The gold medals were sponsored by the old boys of A/L 1994 batch.

The prize day ended with vote of thanks.
